The St. Kitts and Nevis Bureau of Standards (SKNBS) is proud to announce that the Bureau has officially achieved ISO 9001 Certification, further strengthening its commitment to quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement across all areas of its operations.
ISO 9001 is an internationally recognised standard for Quality Management Systems (QMS). Certification confirms that the Bureau operates under clearly defined processes designed to ensure consistent service delivery, effective risk management, strong leadership oversight, and a sustained focus on customer satisfaction and stakeholder confidence.
This milestone means that the SKNBS has implemented a comprehensive quality management framework governing its administrative, technical, regulatory, and standards development functions. It demonstrates that the Bureau’s policies, procedures, and operational controls meet international best practices and are subject to continual monitoring and improvement.
In addition to ISO 9001 Certification, all three SKNBS laboratories — the Air Quality Laboratory, the Microbiology Laboratory, and the Chemistry Laboratory — are ISO/IEC 17025 Accredited. ISO/IEC 17025 is the international standard that specifies the general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories.
ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation confirms that the Bureau’s laboratories operate with demonstrated technical competence and produce accurate, reliable, and internationally recognised test results. It further assures stakeholders that equipment is properly calibrated, testing methods are validated, and strict quality control procedures are consistently followed to maintain the integrity and credibility of laboratory findings.
Together, ISO 9001 Certification and ISO/IEC 17025 Accreditation position the SKNBS as a fully quality-driven institution. While ISO 9001 ensures that the Bureau’s overall management system operates efficiently and consistently, ISO/IEC 17025 confirms the technical reliability and credibility of its laboratory testing services.
Director of the SKNBS, Mr. Stuart LaPlace, described the achievement as a defining moment for the institution.
“Achieving ISO 9001 Certification demonstrates that the Bureau operates under a robust and internationally recognised quality management system. Coupled with our ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratories, it sends a strong message that the St. Kitts and Nevis Bureau of Standards is committed to excellence, transparency, and delivering services that meet the highest global standards.”
This accomplishment enhances public trust, strengthens regulatory confidence, supports international trade, and reinforces the Bureau’s role in safeguarding consumer health, safety, and the environment.
The SKNBS remains committed to maintaining these certifications and accreditations through continuous improvement, staff development, and strict adherence to international best practices — ensuring that quality remains at the core of everything the Bureau does.
